Presentation of the Teacher
Denise Siméon Lambert was born in Chicago, USA. She led an international career in tourism before settling in Europe. With her husband Henri Lambert, she contributed to the Redu project in Belgium, transforming the village into a renowned cultural and artistic center. In 1993, the couple moved to France and created “Bleu de Lectoure”, dedicated to natural pastel dyeing. Passionate about this historical heritage, Denise continued this adventure in a village near Toulouse, where she founded "L'Atelier des Bleus Pastel d'Occitanie", led workshops, gave conferences, and became a recognized expert for the promotion of this iconic shade.
Educational objectives of this course
Know how to prepare and assemble a vat of pastel.

Detailed program
3 days to learn how to assemble and use a WOAD vat.
Day 1:
Presentation of the Plant, Isatis Tinctoria, its history and its revival.
Choice and selection of supports to dye in relation to your craft project (wool, silk and cellulosic fibers).
Preparation of materials to be dyed: Washing and soaking fabrics.
Assembly of mother tanks for the next day’s dyes.
Day 2: Dye Day
Step 1: Only white cellulosic supports/fibers (viscose, modal, bamboo, etc.)
Step 2: Drying of dyed textiles.
Step 3: Preparation of animal fibers (wool, silk) for the next day and soaking.
Days 3 (morning and afternoon):
Dyes of wool (sheet, gauze, cheesecloth, threads and skeins) and silk (pongee, organza, silk).
Preparation of the over-dyeing technique on already dyed fibers (with chemical or natural dyes) or on fabrics printed with patterns. Second preparation of the mother tanks.
And preparation of selected fabrics or other fibers with washing and soaking.
Debriefing on previous working days: assessment of acquisitions, strong points, weak points; delivery of certificates, satisfaction questionnaire.
Target Audience
This training is intended for beginners wishing to learn about natural dyeing with pastel. It is aimed in particular at breeders wishing to promote their wool production, as well as costume designers, decorators, textile artists, visual artists or anyone looking for skills and techniques which will allow them to integrate dyeing. plants in their professional practice.
This training will give students who want to discover, become familiar with, engage professionally or not with this technique, the desire and the possibility of acquiring the basics. Thanks to these fundamental bases, they will then be able to go further, by following specific training cycles (Master classes). They will then be supported by high-level trainers who have developed techniques applied to specific creative projects.
Level of prior knowledge and prerequisites
None, suitable for beginners who have little or no prior knowledge of natural dyeing on textiles.

Materials available for students
Each participant will benefit from an adapted individual workstation, with individual height-adjustable table, dyeing equipment.
A “materials to dye” sampling kit will be given to each trainee, composed of 0.50 m of linen, viscose, cotton, cotton jersey, wool cheesecloth, wool twill.
Possibility of purchasing raw materials (wool, textiles, threads) on site if necessary and depending on available stocks.
Vast light and bright workshop, abundant library specializing in textile art and colors.

Material to Bring
Aprons.
Clothes for work and spare.
Boots or shoes for dyeing work.
Plastic gloves.
Different fibers or textile supports for dyeing (natural fibers, already dyed and white).
1 stick or broom handle for dyeing (there will be some on site).
Hand towel.
Notebook.
All other dyeing equipment will be provided on site. The cost of the products used during this training is included in the day's price. The textile supports (silk, wool, cotton) can be purchased on site according to the needs and availability of the moment.
