Teacher's presentation
Irit Dulman, an Israeli national, is an internationally recognized specialist in the practice of botanical printing. She lives and works in Israel and is teaching in France for the third time. She is also the author of books on the subject and online classes established since Covid.
For many years, she has developed unique expertise in the field of botanical printing and plant dyeing, having previously been a renowned textile artist specializing in hand-felting wool. She has been offering in-person training courses in France, Spain, Italy, New Zealand, and South America for several years. She has also developed online training modules over the past three years, which complement her in-person sessions. A collection of her dyeing methods is currently being published in Great Britain.
The Training

General objectives of these modules
Be able to use natural dyes with cellulose fibers and wool.
Understand silk printing techniques without mordants.
Understand how to work with silk for printing and discharge effects.
Understand the plants that can be printed on wool without mordants.
Understand how to adapt dyeing techniques to the expected results.
Understand tannins and the nuances they produce.
Understand and adapt different bundling techniques.
Use of metal supports to achieve special effects.
Program according to modules
Module 1: May 30 to June 2 (4 days)
Fundamentals of eco-printing
Mordants.
Kind of fabrics (silk and cellulose).
Introduction to the study of vegetation.
Different bundling techniques.
Module 2: June 4-7 (4 days)
Natural Dyes
Weld, logwood and cochineal.
Using them for pre-dyeing the fabric or as a colored blanket.
Going deeper on vegetation study: discharge effect of acidic plants.
Module 3: June 9-11 (3 days)
Madder
How to handle this special dye, using it as a color blanket or pre-dyeing the fabric.
Module 4: June 14-16 (3 days)
Chinese ink style: black prints
How to add rust to your prints (iron pipes).
Module 5: June 19-21 (3 days)
Ecoprint on wool fabric and felt
Special leaves to be used with this technique.
Monitoring of execution and evaluation methods
Attendance sheets.
Learning is supported by practical demonstrations, one-on-one consultations and illustrated help and explanations.
Training evaluation forms.
Materials available for students
Each participant will benefit from a suitable individual workstation, with individual table adjustable in height and dyeing equipment.
A dyeing material sample kit will be provided to each participant, consisting of cotton, silk, linen, and viscose.
A large, bright and airy workshop with an extensive library specializing in textile art and colors.
For these modules, dyeing products and accessories are included in the registration fee. However, you must bring the textiles you wish to work with. You can also purchase textile materials on site, subject to availability.
Level of prior knowledge and prerequisites
This course is suitable for both experienced dyers and beginners.
Instruction will be in English with simultaneous translation into French.

Self-financing: Tuition fees are €170 per day of training.
Register for 2 modules: 10% discount on the price of the 2 modules.
Register for 3 or more modules: 15% discount on the total price of the modules.

Material to bring
For botanical printing on cellulose fibers:
You will need to bring a variety of fabrics such as silk, cotton, viscose, linen, and other cellulose fabrics.
You can also try bringing linen garments and knits—jersey fabrics—cotton or viscose.
You will need about 5 meters of French terry blanket, which you can purchase on site if needed.
You can also purchase viscose on site if needed.
Scissors, some nylon socks, wheat bran, and fabrics of your choice—cellulose and silk.
In addition to French terry blankets, you can also bring any kind of old fabric or linens.
For botanical printing on wool:
Bring wool fabrics of all kinds, of course—heavier fabrics, transparent materials like shawls, and felt can also be an option.
Bring sheets of soft plastic—about 4 meters each.
You will also need blankets (jersey terry)—about 5 meters, but you can purchase French terry. Terry cloth is available on site if you don't have any (around €13/meter).
You can also bring all sorts of old sheets or t-shirts, or any other material you think you'd like to work with.
You can also purchase silk, linen, cotton, viscose, wool muslin, and wool twill on site if needed.
